Radeon SOC Power Management Architect Lead


AMD is firing on all cylinders on our exciting Radeon Gaming and Compute GPU roadmaps. The Radeon Power and Performance Group (RPPG) is looking for a Power Management Vertical Lead to own & drive definition, prototyping, tradeoff studies, implementation, and verification of the power management architecture along with the algorithms and features which make use of this architecture to optimize power consumption for a SoC family of next generation of RDNA/CDNA graphics processors.



Contribute with minimal supervision to drive innovation, bringing strong analytical problem-solving skills and a pronounced attention to detail. Bring a deep understanding of the intersection of SoC/Platform architecture with Power Management concepts and algorithms needed to optimize both power and performance. This is the experienced engineer we are in search of for this outstanding opportunity where you will collaborate closely with a wide array of engineering disciplines to create leadership products that delight our customers.



  • Take ownership for developing and driving innovative advances in all aspects of power for Radeon graphics platforms from concept through product launch for a family of SoC devices with varying configurations, and targeted market segments along with defining multi-generational feature roadmaps aimed at continuous improvement.
  • Drive power management feature definition and implement prototypes which are tailored and targeted to span multiple product lines and device configurations
  • Drive power management feature verification and implementation in an engineering efficient and scalable manner
  • Develop system level models and use cases - this is a challenging task where you will have to use a lot of engineering judgment
  • Document specifications, Pre-Silicon prototyping and/or emulation verification and test hardware solutions
  • Work with Product teams to understand the power and perf/watt targets/requirements
  • Work cross functionally, with Software/Firmware/SOC/IP/Platform teams, beginning in the concept/architecture definition stage all the way through the design/implementation stages to drive innovative solutions to meet the targets across the full range of the platform
  • Modeling the solutions to establish the return-on-investment and evaluate trade-offs (related to above)
  • Working with the hardware/firmware/software teams to realize the solutions
  • Working with post-silicon teams to debug/tune/optimize the solution
  • Drive Roadmaps driven by continuous improvement, complexity reduction and stability/robustness
  • Coach & mentor others as a technical leader  



  • Proven experience with GPU or CPU hardware architecting for power, embedded microcontroller firmware development, hardware test and verification environments
  • Solid background in GPU or CPU and computer power firmware algorithm development, electrical characterization for production and power software
  • Familiarity with ASIC/SoC Design cycles and methodologies including RTL and Verilog
  • Background in prototyping and proof of concept new complex architectures and algorithms in hardware/software/firmware using physical and/or emulation platforms 
  • Programming skills in either C or C++ as well as scripting with Perl or Python, for example, and experience with modelling
  • Ability to work cross functionally with HW/SW and Pre/Post Silicon teams, lead by influence and strong communication skills



  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another relevant field with at least 8 years of applicable experience
  • Masters or Ph.D. preferred with at least 5 years of applicable experience
