Performance Lab Manager - 157885

  

The Role: 

AMD is looking for a Performance Lab Manager for a high impact role in Software Performance Engineering focused on improving the performance of key applications and benchmarks. You will be a member of a core team of high-talent industry specialists and will work with the latest hardware and software technologies. 

Your role will be to manage and lead the team that supports our optimization efforts and measures benchmarks and application performance across the latest and unreleased products from AMD and our competitors. 

  

THE PERSON: 

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of PCs and PC hardware and will understand benchmarking best practices to produce comparable datasets across many systems. They will, ideally, have a history in PC hardware benchmarking, team management, and be familiar with the best data collection and presentation practices. 

  

The candidate should have experience in how to process and visualize data so engineering and business audiences within AMD can quickly understand results. They will understand the importance of rigorous data analysis techniques and will be comfortable designing new and novel procedures to help answer open-ended questions about performance. 

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Directly manage a team of technicians that assemble and test consumer PC hardware including CPUs, GPUs, and other subsystems 

  1. Ensure best practices in PC system building, benchmarking data collection, and lab safety 

  1. Regularly summarize and present key findings from measured data to engineering and business staff 

  1. Develop and improve test plans to generate vital data consumed by engineering and business stakeholders 

  1. Identify tasks that can be automated and propose improvements to lab infrastructure to increase efficiency and throughput 

  1. Prioritize information and data requests from stakeholders across the company 

  1. Identify systemic issues in experimental data and work towards solutions 

  

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & ABILITIES: 

  • Direct experience with CPU, GPU, memory, or hard disk benchmarking 

  • Experience in scripting and automation (Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.) 

  • Designing, implementing and executing test plans to answer open-ended questions 

  • Skilled in translating raw results into a concise story or answer 

  • Deep experience with visualizing the data: charts, graphs, and other visual proof points 

  • 5+ years of relevant PC industry experience  

  

CREDENTIALS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in product marketing, communications, systems engineering, electronic engineering, data analysis, data management, or performance engineering preferred
