Senior Director Server Hardware and Power Engineering



Our Platform Systems and Power Engineering team is responsible for ensuring that our customer’s will be able to deliver the best performance possible given the constraints of their server infrastructure and end user’s environment.  

The engineers on this team have a deep understanding of the power management architecture and electrical/thermal characteristic of our AMD CPUs and SOCs so that we deliver product skus that best meet our customer’s unique needs and also provide all of the necessary system level collateral including reference boards and other HW tools to ease and accelerate their integration efforts. 

This team is expected to comprehend existing and invent new technologies that span a holistic, platform solution stack including Si, platform HW, and FW/SW to deliver the best customer experiences.  They also must understand how complex closed loop control systems function in modern CPUs and why they are required to deliver predictable leading performance across a broad array of workloads.



The leader of this team should demonstrate a expertise in all aspects of HW development with deep knowledge in electrical analysis (SI/PI/PD) and modern CPU power management approaches.   The role requires leading highly technical people across many domains that are organizationally and geographically dispersed.  He/she often accepts high level goals from the most senior executives while understanding how to get there and how things are solved will not be defined.

Behaviorally, the leader should be comfortable challenging conventional wisdom with detailed technical analyses convincing teams to move forward on features more purposefully and/or scale back on technology adoption when considering the holistic platform value and technology readiness.  Ultimately, the leader must place greatest value on quality and schedule predictability and needs to be able to judge when it is time to cut desired features to ensure customer commitments are met.

The leader’s “edge” must include the fortitude of accepting risky projects and delivering success by staying with it despite serious headwinds. Respect of the cross-company, local team, and industry technical network is earned by being close to the details and effectively bringing clarity to complexity. The candidate for this position must be well-connected leaders/mentors, setting excellent examples for the technical/business communities, questioning manager, peer, and subordinate assumptions.



The team’s most important deliverable is ensuring customer solutions are enabled with robust and leading-edge performance within their needed power and cost envelopes. This includes:

  • Expertly define and validate power management and other complex electrical control systems.   
  • Deliver necessary reference hardware and tools to enable faster quality customer integration.
  • Authoring technical specs and leading engineering and validation efforts on board design with BOM.
  • Thermal and FF optimizations



  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline/ MS preferred
