Memory System Architect

The Role:

AMD Research is an entrepreneurial research organization with a strong track record of driving research innovations into AMD products. We are a global leader in the development of the world’s most advanced high-performance computers (HPC), such as El Capitan, the world-leading 2 exaflop supercomputer.   We are looking for an experienced researcher to help lead cross-cutting initiatives spanning hardware and software architecture research to solve emerging challenges in computing system performance, and to drive product adoption of those technologies.

You are passionate about developing disruptive new solutions that span hardware architecture, system software, and applications/algorithms to solve challenging problems in future computing systems. Does this describe you? Then join us!

Key Responsibilities:


  • Help drive research efforts to improve memory system performance and efficiency.
  • Coordinate across hardware and software research teams to develop cross-cutting solutions.
  • Identify and drive product roadmap intercept opportunities for research outputs.
  • Help evaluate the value proposition and business case for new architectural solutions.
  • Communicate with key internal and external partners.
  • Write reports and research publications.
  • Submit patentable inventions.

Preferred Experience:


  • Strong background in application-driven architecture design and hardware/software co-design.
  • Experience with accelerator-based computing and GPU architecture.
  • Understanding of SoC and memory system architecture/microarchitecture.
  • Track record of driving research outputs into product roadmaps.
  • History of issued patents that are embodied in successful products.
  • Experience collaborating in a geographically distributed team (AMD Research has sites across North America).

Additional experience desired:

  • Familiarity with Machine Learning and/or scientific computing.
  • Understanding of system software and virtualization.

Academic Credentials:

PhD degree or equivalent accomplishments in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field.
