Senior Director Sever Platform Validation Engineering 

THE ROLE

  • Gatekeeper of quality for server products including funct., elec., and security post-si val responsibility
  • Works closely with design, prod engr, platform SW, and HW teams on optimized product TTM thru PLC
  • Ensures functional correctness, electrical compliance/margins, and customer use case enablement
  • Engages and collaborates closely with early launch customers for fastest TTM and enhanced coverage
  • Drives debug and resolution of all product sightings identified internally and externally
  • Partners w/ product engineering teams to ensure quality criteria is met per internal and customer goals

 

 

THE TEAM

  • Our PVE team is the ultimate gatekeeper for the quality of every server product we ship including functional, electrical, and security post-silicon validation responsibility.  It works closely with design, product engineering, platform software, and hardware teams on optimized bring-up and execution strategies.  This includes ensuring functional correctness, electrical compliance/margins, and enabling customer use cases. The validation team must engage from the beginning of any design project and stay engaged through post-launch.  Validation architects must ensure the product has the right controllability for testing and observability for debugging during the technical feasibility and development phases.  Emulation engineers must work closely with the design verification team and ensure content is ready and well tested in emulation before first silicon arrives in the lab.  The functional validation engineers must embrace both synthetic and commercial methods of testing to ensure appropriate coverage and find all critical bugs in a timely manner.  The team must also enable the development of necessary tools and silicon/software hooks (e.g., DFx)  to generate content with randomization, efficient failure debug, and automation infrastructure enabling the most efficient and effective execution and fastest path to launch.  Must embrace new approaches such as “at-scale validation clusters” to ensure required quality.
  • The validation team has the pre-silicon responsibility of reviewing design milestones and qualifying these milestones for tape-out readiness. This requires quality checklists prepared collaboratively with partner teams. With the insights and knowledge developed during the development phase, the validation team will lead the bring-up efforts of any silicon in the lab.  From bring up to production, any issues found internally or externally from customers are debugged and resolved by validation experts in collaboration with silicon and software development teams and product engineering teams as necessary.   A key role of this team is engaging and collaborating closely with early launch customers for fastest TTM and enhanced coverage (based on new usage and workload insights).  The team must drive tools and methodologies that can be used seamlessly by customers to shorten overall time to initial launch and high volume ramp. The validation team must product engineering methods and silicon process specifications to enable a robust product definition and electrical recipe into customer BIOS. 

 

 

THE PERSON

  • This role requires business and technical acumen along with experience leading global validation organizations including engineering managers, program managers and specialized technical experts.  The leader should have in-depth understanding of our product architecture and its requirements to meet our customer needs in terms of quality, schedule, and features.  He/she must understand server silicon validation methodologies with experience in post silicon program ownership and a track record role-modeling a “zero customer escape” mentality.  Quick responsiveness to customer needs, ability to clearly and crisply communicate issues, and discipline/passion in continuous improvement is expected.
  • The PVE leader must collaborate well w/ cross-company development, manufacturing, and business leads to deliver high quality products at competitive costs and schedule.   He/she is the key server technical leader from first samples to customer launch.  Sound and rapid decision-making skills, ability to manage ambiguity, and consistent visible leadership during customer escalations is a must.    His/her ability to lead complex system debug during intense customer and executive pressure while keeping the team morale high is core to the role.  He/she should also have an ability to drive validation coverage and execution plans from solutions to silicon level jointly with our top customers and outsourcing partners with persistent alignment on launch date dependencies. 
  • The role will involve high level visibility of the most senior leaders inside and outside of the company.   Strong executive level communication (verbal and written) and sound decision making is of utmost importance.

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

  • BS EE or related field; Masters preferred
