Sr. Manager GPU Development Lab and Data Center

 

THE ROLE:

As the Sr. Manager for the GPU Development Lab and Data Center, you will determine the strategy, mission, and planning of the GPU Development Data Centers and the Advanced GPU HW Development Labs.  While working with cutting edge Machine Learning and HPC (High-Performance Computing) technologies, you will lead and manage data center server deployments, infrastructure, networking, and management software.  You will also mentor and guide the activities of the Data Center Operations Manager, GPU HW Development Lab Managers, and their support teams.  You will be responsible for partnering with the AMD Global Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Global Lab Committee, Facilities, Information Technology and Information Security teams to implement lab protocols and plan strategic lab usage and expansion.  This Manager is a cross-functional technical leader working with internal and external clients, Program Managers, Product Mangers, and Development Leads.

 

 

THE PERSON:

A successful candidate must be a strong team player with leadership as well as hands-on skills to support optimal lab and data center operations. 

The candidate must also have strong data center management, advanced networking, information security, and associated system configuration skills.

Must be experienced with budgeting and space planning associated with hardware development labs and data centers. 

Should be proactive, with a track record of excellent teamwork, team leadership, communication, project management, and organization skills.

Preferably should have an understanding of the general silicon engineering development process (preferably GPU, or CPU/APU), from concept through bring up and validation and into production.
Experience with system management, automation deployment, monitoring, and ticketing tools is a strong plus.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage multi-location Hardware Development Labs 
  • Manage multi-location Development Data Centers
  • This will include strategic planning, budgets, infrastructure, and deployment staff for all environments
  • Direct and mentor the GPU Development Data Center Operations Managers, GPU Hardware Development Lab Managers and their staff
  • Understand the needs of both the internal development and external customer enablement in order to define and manage the services and support hardware roadmaps
  • Develop and guide the implementation of the strategic plan for the GPU Development Data Centers & GPU Hardware Development Labs, including expansions, system deployment planning, long-range CapEx / OpEx forecasting, and mitigation planning
  • Operate as the Global Lab Safety Chair, and partner with the Global EHS team, Global Lab Committee, and local site Lab Leads in other business units to disseminate and implement AMD wide lab safety initiatives and protocols 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Highly experienced in managing technical support teams in development labs or datacenters. 
  • Experience with IT infrastructure, and implementation projects for enterprise or government
  • Experience working in enterprise-level data centers
  • Experience working in a hardware development bring-up lab 
  • Experience working with data center GPU servers preferred 
  • Experience creating technology and service roadmaps and managing their planning and deployment
  • Experience working with Executive level stakeholders to understand needs and creating buy-in for infrastructure and services offerings
  • Demonstrated experience in managing Lab Technicians
  • Understanding of computer hardware and architecture, and the hardware development cycles
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills
  • Strong networking and information security skills, and experience with VXLAN, and MLAG
  • Experience with System Management, such as Open-Stack
  • Hands-on experience with deployment, ticketing, and monitoring software tools such as Snipe-IT, ServiceNow, and Zabbix
  • Experience with automated deployment processes such as Cobbler, Ansible, Chef, and Open-Stack 
  • Experience with data center and HW lab EHS procedures and protocols, ESD protocols, and OSHA regulations 
  • Experience with planning for data center and lab future requirements and growth
  • Experience with space planning, facilities planning, and corporate leasing
  • Knowledge of and experience with Cloud and Hybrid cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of core Data Center infrastructure and management technologies

 

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or another relevant discipline, with advanced technical or business degree desired
