Technical Accounting - Sr Manager

The Role:

This Senior Manager – Technical Accounting role is a high-visibility leadership position within AMD's Finance organization located in Santa Clara, CA. This role is critical to the success of the business and reports directly to the Senior Director Technical Accounting and Global Revenue. This is an individual contributor role, with no direct reports.

This position plays a critical role in the development and review process of business arrangements and contracts and requires prior experience evaluating financial and accounting-related aspects of business structures and related contracts.

The Person:

We’re looking for an experienced Technical Accountant to provide leadership in support of business arrangements, including the assessment of accounting-related and financial considerations. The ideal candidate should have a bias for action, high sense of teamwork, and ability to speak up and make recommendations in a fast-moving environment. The role requires someone with capability to continually expand their scope and influence.

You should be a self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills, able to effectively interact with multiple teams and various levels of management. Ability to build and leverage alliances is key, as is the ability to successfully meet deadlines, and adapt to change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work cross-functionally with legal, finance and non-finance business partners in analyzing transactions, determining accounting treatment and the impact on budgets and forecasts
  • Responsible for technical review, and financial reporting, of various accounting matters to ensure compliance with US GAAP and other regulatory bodies as applicable
  • Proactively identify, research, consult and prepare or review technical memorandums on significant proposed and or completed transactions and issues
  • Ownership and management of the quarterly technical accounting update program covering the various financial accounting regulatory bodies. This requires monitoring, understanding, and providing interpretation of new and proposed accounting pronouncements. Quarterly present to AMD’s CAO and the corporate accounting team including coordination with the tax team on tax related updates. The process also involves alignment with our external auditors
  • Perform ad-hoc technical accounting research and provide guidance to Corporate Accounting team and business unit groups within the company
  • Facilitate trainings on relevant accounting topics to AMD personnel, as needed
  • Provide insight to or participate in preparation of new or existing accounting policies with Accounting Policy Governance team based on evolving industry standards and best practices, and lead changes in those areas
  • Technical lead on new standard implementations, as applicable
  • Attend, and actively participate in, monthly close meetings led by the corporate accounting and business unit finance teams
  • Support the External Reporting team with technical reviews of the MD&A, financial statements, and footnotes in SEC filings
  • Responsible for 404 compliance for direct areas of responsibility and support overall 404 compliance.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience dealing with complex technical accounting areas
  • Advanced understanding of accounting processes and principles
  • Proven ability to assess contracts and influence recommended changes as required
  • Strong data gathering and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in WORD, Excel and PowerPoint

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or equivalent
  • Licensed active CPA
