System Power Design (Platform Development)



AMD Client platform development team is part of Client platform engineering and be responsible to deliver the customer reference, silicon BU and validation platforms for all AMD Client products. You will be working with the global function teams on physical system power design implementation flows and driving both the dependencies and deliverables to hit the platform release milestones, drive both inside and outside of AMD to accomplish complex projects with aggressive schedule and challenges.




Has strong electrical technical background and motherboard DC to DC power design experience on laptop, desktop, workstation motherboard power design. Has excellent communication skills in both English and mandarin and be able to work independently in a global work environment. Always thinking more and creatively for improvement and innovation.



  • Working with the global teams on physical system power design implementation and leading the system power solution discussion for every new generation platform development. Driving both the power related dependencies and deliverables.
  • As the platform power design expertise, the role will need to work with North America system architect and SOC power architect for every new generation Infrastructure Roadmap definition and optimization.
  • Pursuing and developing the platform power solutions which can demonstrate the optimal silicon performance, benefit for system better battery life and energy star.
  • Define the silicon power measurement platform infrastructures with internal power and performance team for SOC EDC analysis and system power consumption optimization.
  • Work with tools team for new generation of AMD stardust tool schedule and deliver alignment. Fine tune the APU/CPU core VR solution with the tool, proactively monitor the tool related issues from internal design, validation and customer engineering team and drive the continues improvement.
  • Define the platform level power test procedure for internal system/silicon validation and external to ODM customers for reference; this responsibility will extend from power solution pre-silicon test plan to post-silicon variety power related protocol verification test procedure upgrade.
  • The role will also need to co-work with multiple VR vendors to help root cause the power related issues that requested by customer engineering team.




  • Leadership – Demonstrated power design leadership of complex cross-functional teams in a R&D environment.
  • Exec Communications – Extensive experience with executive presentations and proposals including the ability to summarize complex situations and recommendations succinctly. 
  • Issue solving and decision making – Independently solve the system power related issues, able to collect the necessary data/input and provide the team proposals for final decision making.
  • Innovation mindset – Always thinking more and come out creative ideas for the continuous improvement on AMD product and reference platform design.
  • 10 year+ experience on x86 and/or ARM based motherboard/laptop/server DC to DC power design, deep knowledge on different type of voltage regulator, system battery, battery charger, PD controller work methodology. With additional 5 year+ power team leader is a great plus.
  • Expertise on buck, buck-boost topology.
  • Good at CAD Tools, including but not limited to OrCAD, Allegro, and Concept HDL.
  • Deep knowledge on power related PCB technological, thermal, DCR impedance and EMI impact.
  • Familiar with PC, mobile or server architecture.
  • Familiar with product and ODM/OEM customer power solution reliability verification, validation, and compatibility testing flow.
  • Proficient English and Mandarin (listening, writing, and speaking).
  • Lab equipment skillsets, including soldering, scope, DC load, DC source, logic analyzer.




An electrical/computer Engineering Bachelor’s degree above plus 15 years of x86/ARM based system power design lead experience.
