Software/Firmware Intern/Co-op

 

The Role:

ICT Firmware team at AMD is looking for a software/firmware intern to join the team and help develop/debug/test embedded firmware and silicon initialization code. As part of the role, the intern will work closely with other firmware developers and architects in designing and implementing embedded firmware that span pre- and post-silicon for all AMD business units.

 

The Person:

Passionate about firmware development on bare-metal or close to bare-metal environments. Need strong problem-solving skills, with a collaborative can-do attitude. Strong knowledge of computer architecture and low-level programming in C.

 

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Developing and testing various features, covering PCI Express, USB4, Gigabit Ethernet, and other AMD proprietary SERDES technology
  • Supporting emulation/simulation teams during pre-silicon phase to validate SOC hardware and firmware components
  • Working closely with hardware design teams to verify and optimize performance of IP subsystems.
  • Engage with technical leads to understand firmware scope and work on implementation to meet schedules and milestones.
  • Assist as needed including firmware development, tools development, testing and automation.
  • Must be well-organized, technically oriented, and a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with geographically distributed technical teams.
  • Desire to work and succeed on fast-paced and highly dynamic environments

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of low-level C programming & debugging for embedded systems.
  • Prior experience working with embedded hardware.
  • Experience in hardware/software interfaces and debugging firmware using JTAG, source code debuggers and other tools.
  • Experience with source control systems (Git)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

 

Educational Credentials:

Candidate for BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
