Power & Performance System Engineer

As part of the Power and Performance Optimization group, the Client Power Optimization team provides power and battery life engineering expertise on AMD mobile and desktop platforms. The core purpose of the team is to deliver high-quality power assessments of our products/platforms, which benefits the following areas:

  • Product Development: Pre-production battery life characterization and optimization
  • Marketing: AMD product definition/power-performance trade-offs
  • Customer: Root-cause resolution of customer battery life and performance issues

 

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with PPA (Power and Performance Attainment) engineers to help improve customer designs for battery life and performance target delivery.
  • Executing MSFT ADK, performance benchmark and battery life tests
  • Setting up systems and power measurement equipment for automated test framework.

 

 SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic understanding of computer/SoC architecture and ACPI specification
  • Basic understanding of board layout and schematics is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Windows OS, device driver and software installation
  • Experience working in a lab environment, including use of oscilloscopes, datalogger, multimeters, soldering iron
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills and pronounced attention to details
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience running Microsoft ADK, performance benchmark and battery life tests is a big plus
  • Must be a self-starter, and able to independently drive tasks to completion

 

  EDUCATION:

  • Major in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field
