Customer Platform System Engineer Lead

AMD is looking for a Lead of Customer Platform System to work closely with our customers who are developing AMD Server processor based systems. The lead engineer will work with internal cross functional teams and our customer teams during design, development, and critical issue escalations and help get issues resolved in time to meet product development or deployment milestones.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • During reference platform design, the system engineer is expected to work with cross organization teams to ensure customer platform features are in sync with AMD Lead System Engineer to ensure development is supported and validation is planned.
    • Customer required development and test tools
    • Constantly review current generation critical issues and prevent in next generation
    • Gather/develop database for customer platforms and drive to reduce customer platform risks (e.g. config differences to CRB, NVMe hotplug, IO topology, unique configs, etc.)
    • Key role in the customer platform E2E process to ensure customer platform configs/features are aligned with LSE
    • Assure that all responsibilities are clearly defined across all relevant and participating organizations
  • During development engineering, the system engineer is expected to
    • Assure key features/experiences designed into customer platforms are within the solution constrains and aligns with customer development plan
    • Provide root cause analysis and guidance to internal and customer design teams to help close issues.
    • Support project independently and handle all issues working cross functionally with teams.
    • Visit customers for onsite support
    • Knowledge and use of standard debuggers, programmers, and emulators.
    • Provides customer platform leadership oversight together with AE and drive mitigation and contingency plans for new, unique, difficult, and different customer platform features
    • Assure that all responsibilities are clearly defined across all relevant and participating organizations
    • Identification and coordination of all customer early engagement activities with all relevant teams/organizations
  • A thorough understanding of PC industry busses, such as DDR, PCIe, USB, and SATA
  • Detailed knowledge of high speed digital design and signal integrity.
  • Strong understanding of server platform, BIOS, OS and interactions at the system level as well as a proficient Understanding of x86 CPU architecture and functionality.
  • This position may require some travel as needed to support the customer.
  • A self-starter required and able to deal with a high level of ambiguity.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in x86 server platform design with 10+ years
  • Project Leadership and experience working with OEM/ODM partners
  • Leading issues debug status and make the project progress can meet the schedule
  • Knowledge of AMD platform is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of X86 architectures and DDR memory interface desired.
  • Expert use of tools such as Jtag debuggers, logic analyzers, SATA, USB, and PCIe bus analyzers
  • Excellent communication skills are required in the role of supporting customers
  • Microprocessor bring-up and debug
  • Experience with system component compatibility and stress testing

EDUCATION:

Bachelors or Master’s degree in Electronics/Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
